Jesus Traditions |
The
reader’s patience is requested in the fact that these Jesus
pages are in effect a kind of sub-Web, “piggy-backing” on the
principal Web, http://www.paulonpaul.org,
and thus that the As Paul Tells It . .
. designation at the top of each page is not quite accurate.
The Jesus
Traditions Home Page is readily accessible by clicking on Contents,
to be found at the top and bottom of each page.

Matthew 9:9 |
Mark 2:14 |
Luke 5:27-28 |
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew
sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow
me.” And he got up and
followed him. |
As he was walking along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting
at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up
and
followed him. |
27After this he went out and
saw a tax collector named Levi,
sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow
me.” 28And he got up, left
everything, and followed him. |
The author of the Gospel of Matthew apparently “tidies things up” by changing
Levi to Matthew, thereby bringing Matthew 9:9 into harmony with the
list in Matthew 10:2-4, and keeping the number of disciples at
twelve!
